A single instance convinced me of the problem of culture, and in this case music, reaching out across communities. I thought I would introduce my good Mexican friend to Indian Classical Music.

When he heard a 'bhajan' by Bhimsen Joshi, he said it reminded him of Elton John's songs from LION KING

When he heard a recital of 'matras' from a tabla piece by Alla Rakha, he said it reminded him of RAP

I give up...

Hee hee :-)
This reminds me of my Canadian cousin's hilarious comments on Bhimsen Joshi. He irreverently christened him 'Beamer' and declared that he was quite drunk at his live performance in Bal Gandharva.
Hope he doesn't see this comment!!

Panditji may have been under the influence of alcohol during many live performances. However his renditions have remained impeccable all along. That is why he is a legend.
Your canadian cousin and his/her 'hilarious comments' are sick .
